The Hotel

The Seawood Hotel was originally built in 1843 as a 3 bedroomed gentleman's holiday residence. The hotel was the first building on the North Walk and owned all of the land from Countisbury Headland all the way to the Valley of the Rocks.

The house was sold in 1888 and it's land was divided. Some of the land was sold to Sir George Newnes and his consortium. Sir George Newnes was a man of vision for Lynton who helped design the Lynton that we have today. He used the land for the construction of the cliff railway, it's entrance can be easily reached through our back garden

The house was converted to a hotel in about 1903.

The hotel has been going through a refurbishment program. The design has been done sympathetically according to the style of the building. The hotel now has 3 public rooms, 7 bedrooms and a suite on the top floor. We are hoping to shortly announce a further suite on the 1st floor A sauna has been installed on the top floor for our guests' convenience.
